In October, I had the pleasure of embroidering tiny baby items for all the guests of Jas Hamilton's baby shower hosted at Chef Michael Solomonov's Jaffa Bar Philadelphia in Fishtown. Jas's mother-in-law is a retired event planner and hostess with the mostess. She thought of everything! The theme was a Parisian farmer's market, complete with a real market full of veggies, fruit, flowers, baguettes, and custom totes branded for the event. Imagine getting to do your grocery shopping while attending your bestie's baby shower!? Efficiency!
While the hostess with the mostess took care of all the details, I set up my embroidery station at the rear of the restaurant. Jas's family stocked her up with blank onesies, bibs, burp cloths, blankets, hats, and we collaborated on special designs for the day that fit the theme (like, French poodles, croissants, kisses). Guests could approach the station throughout the party and put in an order for a customized item. I prepared order forms in advance, making it easy for guests to choose their customization. We clothespinned it to their garment of choice and hung it on a sweet little baby-sized clothing rack. As the guests mingled, I stitched as quickly and efficiently as I could, ensuring each 'order' was kept with the item so Jas could see what was customized by whom.
Not only was the embroidery an entertaining and interactive part of the shower, but it gave Jas's friends and family the sweetest vessel to convey their love for her baby girl. So many of Jas's friends had little inside jokes to share with her in onesie form, which I imagine down the road will make Jas giggle with delight & nostalgia as she's pulling out a change of clothes for baby girl.
Being so busy stitching, I hardly captured pictures! But since Jas moonlights as a Philadelphia influencer in addition to her full-time job as a Labor & Delivery nurse (YES!) she documented the events to perfection in posts on her Instagram and her TikTok.
