Three Objects

Three Objects

For my Digital Portfolio elements course, we were given an assignment to choose and photograph three meaningful/symbolic objects.  Further into the course we continued to work with the objects to add layers of meaning using various digital programs.

I combined my grandfather's army lieutenant uniform jacket with my father's army reserves portrait and edited it in the style of Shepard Fairey’s “Hope” poster for Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign, which became an iconic image of his presidency.  I intended to convey both patriotism as well as paternal love and protection with my work.

My second object, the bootscraper, I used to make a statement on the rapid gentrification I saw in my neighborhood as well as the city's approach to accessibility.

In my third image, I photographed and photoshopped my engagement ring to depict an image of reaching, longing for, or perhaps losing what's thought of as part of the American dream.
