Project: Evolution of the Wifi Tab & Creation of the Stateful Header in the Xfinity App
Project Duration: 1.5 years
Technology: The wifi tab became the first tab in the Xfinity App to be 100% Velox powered, meaning there weren’t custom components or code used specifically for the experience. Everything created could be re-used elsewhere, and is syndicate-able to our partners. Further, it is the first experience in the app to show pulsing animations around devices depicting their online/offline status.
In addition to redesigning the tab layout, components, and content hierarchy, collaboration was required across silo’d design teams and product teams to ensure consistency across the app as other areas were changing simultaneously. App navigation and tablature evolved over the course of the project.
Role: Design Program Manager
- I consulted with product owners, UX designers, UI designers, and copywriters to break down the overarching goal into phases so that there could be continuous delivery and refinement.
- I ensured that the design team shared early and often with their design leadership and product stakeholders to ensure alignment and adherence to existing design systems and accessibility standards.
- I designed timelines with pertinent milestones to help designers break down their work-weeks, and implemented an automated system for alerting designers when milestones were approaching. These timelines were communicated overtly with stakeholders in formal communication channels as well as in our ticketing management system, JIRA, and in our project management tool, Smartsheet.
- I utilized recurring syncs with product stakeholders to share risks, status updates, and budgeted time to discuss misalignments and alternative solutions.
In May of 2024, our team received the Center for Plain Language ClearMark award in the Before & After Digital category for the copy updates made to the Wifi tab in the Xfinity App.
