Project: Storm Ready Wifi Launch in the Xfinity App

Storm-Ready-Wifi is a cellular backup and wifi extender to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during storms and power outages. In the Xfinity App, the design team was tasked with representing the product in the app, onboarding customers to the product, explaining and reinforcing its value, creating upsell opportunities, and providing troubleshooting tips.
Role: Design Program Manager
- I consulted with product owners, UX designers, UI designers, and copywriters to break down the overarching goal into phases so that there could be continuous delivery and refinement.
- I ensured that the design team shared early and often with their design leadership and product stakeholders to ensure alignment and adherence to existing design systems and accessibility standards. To mitigate design debt I also required our product owners to consult with legal to ensure that our content wasn’t in conflict with established communications policies.
- The design team needed to meet critical deadlines for employee trials and general audience launch. I worked with product to prioritize features and enhancements critical to these deadlines. I collaborated with designers in UX, UI, and Copy to create a timeline to help them break down their work-weeks with milestones for product and design reviews. I utilized Smartsheet to implement an automated system for alerting designers when milestones were approaching. These timelines were communicated overtly with stakeholders in formal communication channels as well as in our ticketing management system, JIRA, and in our project management tool, Smartsheet.
- I utilized recurring syncs with product & program stakeholders to share risks, status updates, and budgeted time to discuss misalignments and alternative solutions.
Impact:
- Thanks to Xfinity Storm-Ready-Wifi, Comcast was named Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies for 2024 in the RapidResponse category.
- Storm-Ready-Wifi won the 2024 Red Dot Award in Communication Technology, an international competition that recognizes excellence in design.
- Storm-Ready-Wifi’s launch was so impactful that in 2024 we had to cease upsell opportunities in the app due to selling out our inventory!
